Scientists have developed a gel that may be able to convert brain support cells called astrocytes into neurons, potentially offering a new way to treat Alzheimer's disease. The gel works by blocking a key protein, PTBP1, allowing astrocytes to transform into functioning neurons. In mice with Alzheimer's, the treatment improved memory and increased neuron density, though more research is needed before human trials.
