New AI Model Lets People Speak Using Only Their Thoughts

UC Berkeley and UCSF scientists developed an AI system that converts silent brain signals to speech at up to 90 words per minute using brain-surface electrodes. The technology could help people with paralysis communicate and activates only when a user attempts to speak. Researchers aim for clinical use within 3-5 years, despite current limitations to invasive electrodes.
