Intel has quietly abandoned its controversial "On Demand" processor technology that required customers to pay extra fees to unlock hardware features already built into their CPUs. The initiative, launched in 2021, allowed enterprise users to activate certain accelerators and capabilities in Xeon processors through licensing fees. Intel archived the project's GitHub repository in November and removed related web pages, effectively ending the widely unpopular pay-to-unlock model that many viewed as forcing customers to pay twice for the same hardware.
