Instagram and X have an impossible deepfake detection deadline

India has mandated that social media platforms like Instagram and X must remove illegal AI-generated content within three hours and clearly label all synthetic materials by February 20th, giving companies just nine days to comply. Current detection systems like C2PA metadata are failing to properly identify deepfakes, with synthetic content regularly slipping through existing safeguards.
