Compal’s AI Book Redefines the Laptop’s Idle Space By Integrating an E Ink Screen Directly Into the Palm Rest

Compal Electronics unveiled the AI Book concept laptop that replaces the traditional palm rest and trackpad with a color E Ink touchscreen, allowing users to write notes, sketch, or view information. The E Ink display remains functional when the laptop is closed, with a hinge design that exposes part of the screen for notifications while consuming minimal power. This design won an iF Design award for 2026 and promises to integrate AI-generated content like summaries and suggestions directly into the palm rest area.
