AWS wants to give old datacenters a second life with new recycling and repair facilities

Amazon has expanded its reverse logistics in Europe with new re:Cycle centers in Dublin, Ireland. These facilities test, repair, and repurpose hardware from AWS data centers to support Amazon's net-zero carbon emissions goal. Using robotics and specialized machines, they recover valuable materials from processor chips, RAM, and network cards. In 2023, the program diverted 14.6 million hardware components from landfills globally. This initiative extends equipment life, reduces waste, and creates jobs in Ireland's tech sector.
