Android phones are getting smarter about detecting when they've been stolen

Google unveiled enhanced anti-theft features for Android devices, targeting protection before, during, and after theft attempts. Key improvements include strengthened Authentication Lock with user controls, expanded Identity Check requiring biometric verification outside trusted locations, and enhanced remote lock capabilities with security questions. These protections will come pre-enabled on new Android devices in Brazil, including Theft Detection Lock that automatically secures phones when motion sensors detect snatch-and-run attempts.
