NIST Selects HQC as Fifth Algorithm for Post-Quantum Encryption

NIST has selected HQC as a backup encryption algorithm to protect against future quantum computer attacks, supplementing the primary ML-KEM algorithm standardized last year. This provides a second line of defense for general encryption, safeguarding internet traffic and stored data, with NIST planning to release a draft standard for HQC in about a year.
