NASA’s Mars Orbiter Hits a Major Milestone, Captures 100,000th Image

NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter recently achieved a major milestone when its HiRISE camera captured its 100,000th image of Mars, nearly two decades after launch. The camera can detect features as small as 3 feet wide from hundreds of miles above, revealing that Mars is constantly changing with active wind patterns, shifting dunes, and avalanches. The milestone photograph shows the Syrtis Major region and was requested by a high school student through a public program that lets anyone choose imaging targets.
