Madrid hospital creates first bone metamaterial prosthesis, prevents leg amputation

Madrid's Gregorio Marañón Hospital saved a 38-year-old cancer patient's leg using a groundbreaking titanium prosthesis built with aerospace-derived metamaterial technology and 3D printing. Designed with engineers from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the implant mimics real bone structure, weighs just 300 grams, yet withstands over 500 kilos. A year later, the patient walks again, and the hospital is already planning similar implants for a wrist and sternum.
