Astronomers created the largest-ever 2D map of the universe, charting 4 billion objects in the night sky

Astronomers have released the largest 2D map of the universe ever created, charting 4 billion objects including stars, galaxies, and black holes across three-quarters of the night sky. Built over 13 years using three ground-based telescopes, the map covers both visible and near-infrared light. Scientists will use it to study dark matter, dark energy, supernovae, and other cosmic mysteries, while also supporting future telescope missions.
