This AI-powered shape-shifting wing could make aircraft tails obsolete — and slash travel costs

Engineers at Germany's Aerospace Center are developing an AI-powered morphing wing that can change shape mid-flight to reduce drag and potentially eliminate the need for a traditional tail. Tested on a 70-kilogram drone with a 3-meter wing, the one-million-Euro morphAIR project uses motorized components beneath a smooth surface to improve airflow and fuel efficiency, which could significantly cut travel costs for future aircraft.
