Study finds AI slop videos spreading fast across YouTube -- and there's a lot of money being made

Low-quality AI-generated videos are rapidly spreading across YouTube, with a new Kapwing study finding these "slop" videos earn substantial money while dominating trending channels worldwide. The research analyzed over 15,000 YouTube channels and discovered that Spain leads in subscriber counts for AI content, South Korea tops eight billion views, and India's top AI channel earns over four million dollars annually. When researchers created a fresh YouTube account, roughly one-third of the first 500 videos shown were low-effort AI content.
