Publishers want AI companies to pay for using their content

Publishers in London launched a collective licensing scheme that allows them to control and monetize how AI companies use their copyrighted content for training generative AI systems. The initiative, announced by Publishers' Licensing Services at the London Book Fair, creates a shared framework where AI developers can access published works through a licensed content store in exchange for fees, ensuring creators receive fair compensation while establishing clearer rules around copyrighted material usage.
