OpenAI takes aim at Anthropic with beefed-up Codex that gives it more power over your desktop

OpenAI intensified its competition with Anthropic by significantly upgrading Codex with new capabilities that allow the AI coding tool to operate in the background of users' computers, opening apps and performing tasks without interrupting other work. The enhanced Codex now includes desktop control features, an in-app browser, memory functions, and 111 plug-in integrations.
