Mistral releases a pair of AI reasoning models

Mistral, a French AI lab, has unveiled Magistral, its first family of reasoning AI models. Magistral comes in two versions: Small (24 billion parameters) and Medium. These models are designed to work through problems step-by-step, improving consistency in areas like math and physics. While Magistral offers fast response times and supports multiple languages, it appears to underperform competitors like Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro on certain benchmarks. This release follows Mistral's recent launches of coding-focused models and enterprise chatbot services.
