If AI Can Do Everything, Why Learn Anything?

University of Pennsylvania researchers found that Turkish high school students using ChatGPT for math practice solved 48% more problems correctly but scored 17% worse on actual tests compared to students who learned without AI assistance. This study reveals that while AI efficiently provides answers, it eliminates the productive struggle essential for genuine learning and building judgment skills that allow people to evaluate AI outputs and determine what questions to ask.
