Eight years of wanting, three months of building with AI

After wanting quality SQLite developer tools for eight years, a developer spent 250 hours over three months using AI coding agents to build syntaqlite, a comprehensive SQLite parser and formatter toolkit. AI helped overcome procrastination, accelerated routine coding tasks, and enabled building features like editor extensions and documentation. However, AI also created challenges including code addiction, loss of codebase understanding, and poor architectural decisions that forced a complete rewrite after an initial month of "vibe-coding" produced unusable spaghetti code.
