"We will never build a backdoor" – Apple kills its iCloud's end-to-end encryption feature in the UK

Apple has removed its Advanced Data Protection feature in the UK following a government request for an encryption backdoor. The feature is unavailable for new users, and existing users will lose access in the future. Despite opposition from over 100 organizations and experts citing privacy concerns, Apple complied with the order while expressing disappointment. The change impacts iCloud backups, photos, and other data categories, but default end-to-end encrypted services like iMessage remain unaffected.
