So long, Assistant—Gemini is taking over Google Maps

Google is replacing Assistant with Gemini across Google Maps to power enhanced navigation and location features. Gemini offers more conversational abilities, handling complex requests like finding nearby cheap vegan restaurants with personalized suggestions rather than simple lists. The upgrade includes a Maps-specific version of Lens that provides instant information about landmarks and businesses through camera recognition. Google claims Gemini won't experience hallucinations in Maps because responses are grounded in billions of place listings and Street View photos.
