Newly Invented Pixel Could Turn Screens into Cameras

Researchers at ETH Zurich have created a new type of pixel, called a Fourier pixel, that can both emit and sense light at the same time, unlike traditional pixels that only do one or the other. By manipulating light's intensity, phase, and polarization simultaneously, these pixels unlock far more information-carrying potential. The technology could lead to screens that also function as cameras, along with advances in holographic displays and augmented reality.
