Creative makers in New York City are transforming discarded Elf Bar vapes into miniature musical instruments called Vape Synths, addressing the environmental crisis of 11 million disposable vapes sold monthly that end up in landfills with dangerous lithium batteries. The devices retain their original appearance but feature added speakers and sensors, producing intentionally goofy sounds when users breathe through the mouthpiece to activate pressure sensors and cover photoresistors with their fingers.
