Grab built its own map in Southeast Asia, and is now going after Google

Grab, a Southeast Asian super-app, developed GrabMaps to enhance navigation in complex urban areas. Utilizing its 5 million drivers to collect data with custom cameras, GrabMaps offers more detailed and current information than third-party providers. The system includes over 65 million addresses and points of interest, with drivers adding about 500,000 map inputs quarterly. GrabMaps has reduced trip durations by 90 seconds on average, increasing driver efficiency. Grab is considering offering mapping services to other companies and government agencies.
