Firefly is getting rebooted as an animated series
SMRTR summary
Twenty-four years after Fox canceled Firefly following just one season, the beloved space western is finally getting a second life as an animated series. Nathan Fillion announced during a live podcast taping at AwesomeCon that the project is in advanced development, with original cast members Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, Jewel Staite, and Alan Tudyk all set to voice their animated counterparts.
This isn't wishful thinking. The reboot already has showrunners Tara Butters and Marc Guggenheim at the helm, concept art from Oscar-winning animation studio ShadowMachine, and a completed script. Original creator Joss Whedon isn't involved but has given his blessing to the project.
The only missing piece? A streaming home willing to pick up the series. Fillion and his co-stars are now actively courting networks while urging fans to demonstrate demand for the long-awaited return to the universe of Serenity.
