Apple Reportedly Developing Its Own Custom Image Sensor for iPhone

Apple is developing a custom image sensor for future iPhones with dynamic range nearing that of the human eye. The sensor features a two-layer design: a top "sensor die" capturing light and a bottom "logic die" for processing. Its Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor system allows pixels to store varying amounts of light in one image, while built-in memory circuits reduce noise. If successful, this sensor could achieve up to 20 stops of dynamic range, surpassing many professional cinema cameras and reducing Apple's reliance on Sony sensors.
