US firm unveils world’s largest 350MW stellarator fusion power design basis

United States-based Type One Energy has published a comprehensive physics basis for a practical nuclear fusion pilot power plant. This will serve as the foundation for their Infinity Two stellarator fusion plant project with the Tennessee Valley Authority. The design is based on over 70,000 optimization simulations and aims to generate 350 MWe of power by the mid-2030s. The project could repurpose existing infrastructure from retired fossil fuel plants, enhancing energy security and diversifying the energy portfolio with cleaner sources.
