US company achieves 99.9 percent rare earth oxide recovery from secondary feedstock

Momentum Technologies, a Texas company, has hit record purity levels pulling rare earth elements from e-waste and magnet scraps using its proprietary MSX technology — something previously only large Chinese facilities could do. With the US relying on imports for 67% of its rare earth needs and China controlling 91% of global refining, this breakthrough could help reduce that dependency. The company now plans commercial-scale production of 100 to 1,000 tons per year.
