This hydrogen turbine turns controlled explosions into electricity

Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology set a world record by running a hydrogen-powered turbine for 303 seconds, surpassing NASA's previous record of 250 seconds. The turbine skips the mechanical compressor that conventional gas turbines rely on, which normally consumes about 50% of their power. Instead, it uses detonation waves to build pressure internally, making it more efficient and potentially cheaper to build and operate.
