This detached hand robot has a thing for skittering on its fingertips

Scientists have created a robotic hand that can detach from its arm and skitter around on its fingertips like "Thing" from The Addams Family. Unlike human hands, the robot's fingers bend backward as easily as forward, allowing it to hold objects on both sides simultaneously and perform tasks like unscrewing bottle caps while gripping the bottle. This design enables the hand to navigate confined spaces too small for humans or larger robots, with applications in industrial inspections, warehouse operations, and disaster response.
