Superwood has arrived – wood up to ten times stronger than steel and six times lighter

InventWood has commercially launched Superwood, an engineered material created through a process that removes wood components, boils them in specialized chemicals, and hot-presses the result to increase molecular density. The revolutionary material boasts ten times the strength-to-weight ratio of steel while being six times lighter, potentially enabling buildings that are four times lighter and more earthquake-resistant. Initially targeting external applications like decking, the company plans to expand to interior uses and eventually entire Superwood buildings.
