New geothermal system uses underground pressure to deliver steady, low-carbon power

Sage Geosystems and Japan's Chiyoda Corporation are partnering to develop a commercial-scale enhanced geothermal system that taps into deep underground heat and pressure to generate steady, low-carbon electricity. Unlike traditional geothermal plants, this approach uses oil-and-gas drilling techniques, making it viable in locations previously unsuitable for geothermal energy. The system can also store surplus electricity underground, releasing it when demand rises.
