Modular micro-reactors set to turn waste methane into 300,000 tons of fuel annually

Emvolon, an MIT spinout founded in 2021, has signed two major deals with commodities trader Freepoint Commodities to scale production of fuel from waste methane. Using modular micro-reactors built on automotive engines, Emvolon converts waste gas from landfills, farms, and industrial sites into liquid fuels locally, targeting 300,000 metric tons annually. Low-carbon biomethanol can command a premium of over $1,000 per metric ton.
