James Webb telescope may have discovered a mysterious, never-before-seen substance on Pluto and Titan

The James Webb Space Telescope detected a mysterious absorption line at 5.11 micrometers on both Pluto and Titan, suggesting an unknown molecule exists on their surfaces. This is puzzling since the two worlds are vastly different, though both share methane-rich atmospheres. NASA's Dragonfly mission, launching no earlier than 2028, may eventually identify it.
