James Webb telescope just spotted the oldest, closest pair of black holes in the early universe

Using the James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers spotted the closest confirmed pair of supermassive black holes ever seen in the early universe, just 1.3 billion years after the Big Bang. The two black holes, called LID-1166, sit only 4,900 light-years apart inside a merging galaxy, helping explain how early black holes grew so massive so quickly.
