Is There Oil on Mars?

Mars was a wet planet around 3.25–3.4 billion years ago, with rivers, lakes, and oceans — conditions similar to early Earth, where microscopic life already existed and eventually produced oil deposits. If similar microbes lived on Mars, their remains could have formed oil underground. Discovering Martian oil would reveal clues about early life on Mars and possibly confirm that Earth and Mars share a common biological ancestry.
