Google quantum chip that peeked into ‘parallel universe’ reveals exotic matter

Scientists using Google's 58-qubit Willow quantum chip have observed an exotic phase of matter called a "Floquet topologically ordered state" for the first time. This non-equilibrium quantum state, which exists outside normal conditions and changes over time in predictable cycles, had only been theoretically proposed until now. The breakthrough demonstrates quantum computers can function as laboratories for exploring unusual quantum matter that traditional systems cannot simulate.
