China targets the real bottleneck in AR displays

Chinese laser display manufacturer Appotronics has developed a breakthrough solution for AR glasses by switching from power-hungry MicroLED displays to LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon) technology, creating light engines as small as 0.2 cubic centimeters. Their single, self-aligned engine design eliminates the need for dual synchronized engines, reduces costs by 50 percent, and achieves over double the efficiency at 4,000 nits per lumen compared to MicroLED's 1,000-1,500 nits per lumen, making AR glasses more practical for everyday use.
