Breakthrough antibiotic that may protect millions enters final human trials

Roche has begun final human trials for zosurabalpin, a new antibiotic developed with Harvard University to combat serious hospital infections. The Phase 3 trial will test the drug against drug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii bacteria in 400 patients globally. If successful, this could be the first new antibiotic effective against this bacteria in over 50 years, potentially saving millions of lives from sepsis and pneumonia.
