Alibaba unveils ‘world’s first’ AI model that detects stomach cancer at early stage

Alibaba has unveiled 'Grape', an AI model capable of detecting early-stage gastric cancer using CT scans. The system, developed with Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, outperformed human radiologists in clinical trials, achieving 85.1% sensitivity and 96.8% specificity. Grape offers a non-invasive alternative to endoscopy, potentially increasing screening rates in China where many patients avoid the uncomfortable procedure. The AI model builds on Alibaba's previous success with pancreatic cancer detection and could transform routine medical imaging into a high-precision cancer screening platform.
