A new twist on matter? Strange 'Half-Mӧbius' molecule has rare properties chemists have never seen before

Scientists at the University of Manchester and IBM Zurich have created a molecule with a "half-Möbius" structure that exhibits new electronic properties. Unlike traditional molecules or full Möbius strips that twist 180 degrees, this structure twists only 90 degrees when electrons rearrange themselves across two systems within a 13-carbon ring. This unique twist creates mirror-image versions that can be switched between using small electrical voltages, opening possibilities for drug development and advanced electronics while expanding understanding of molecular behavior.
