A massive weak spot in Earth's magnetic field is growing, scientists discover

Earth's magnetic field has developed a massive weak spot over the South Atlantic Ocean that has expanded by nearly half the size of continental Europe since 2014, with scientists discovering it's sprouting a new lobe toward Africa where the field weakens fastest. This growing anomaly threatens satellites and spacecraft by exposing them to dangerous solar radiation and cosmic particles that could cause malfunctions or blackouts.
