60 years ago the US took its first walk in space with Gemini 4

Ed White became the first American to perform a spacewalk 60 years ago during the Gemini 4 mission. Using a handheld maneuvering unit, White spent 23 minutes floating outside the spacecraft, taking photos and enjoying the experience. The successful EVA demonstrated U.S. capabilities in space and helped pave the way for future missions, including the Moon landing just four years later.
