Should Managers Still Code?

Engineering managers should be deeply involved in code-related activities without necessarily writing production code themselves. They should understand the codebase, review designs, debug issues, and pair program with reports. While coding skills are valuable, managers can be most effective by focusing on team output, strategy, and leadership tasks rather than direct implementation.
