RAG isn’t dead, but context engineering is the new hotness

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) hasn't died but has been rebranded as "context engineering," which now encompasses both RAG and MCP (Model Context Protocol). Contextual AI launched Agent Composer, an enterprise tool for building agents on top of distributed data sources. The platform offers centrally-hosted alternatives to popular AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor, targeting enterprise developers who need governance and security. Context engineering represents the evolution from simple prompting to managing entire context states including system instructions, tools, and external data in agent workflows.
