Black Swan Bugs: Paving the Way for New Roles in Software Engineering

Black swan bugs — unpredictable, catastrophic, obvious only in hindsight — are structurally uncatchable by AI testing agents because they emerge from untested system interactions outside any training distribution. AI excels at pattern-based regression coverage, but human engineers bring fragility sensing, cross-domain failure pattern recognition, and chaos engineering judgment that no probabilistic model can replicate. High coverage numbers don't mean the unknown-unknown problem is solved.
