Writing with AI demands more thought from students, not less

Using AI for writing doesn't make the process easier — it makes it more demanding. A study from Iowa State University followed 38 undergraduates learning to write with generative AI tools, finding that students must overcome the false belief that AI does the thinking for them. Effective AI-assisted writing still requires human judgment, critical thinking, and clear purpose — skills no AI tool can replace.
