Is xAI a neocloud now?

Anthropic has agreed to buy all the computing capacity at xAI's Colossus 1 data center — roughly 300 megawatts worth — in a deal likely worth billions. This shifts xAI from a company that uses computing power to one that sells it, similar to cloud rental businesses called "neoclouds." While that brings short-term cash flow, it raises questions about whether xAI can still pursue its own ambitious AI software projects if it's selling compute to competitors.
