Don't trust AI to come up with a strong new password for you — LLMs are pretty poor at creating new logins, experts warn

AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini create passwords that appear strong but contain predictable patterns that hackers can exploit, according to new research by Irregular. Testing revealed AI-generated 16-character passwords had only 20-27 bits of entropy compared to 98-120 bits for truly random passwords, making them vulnerable to cracking within hours.
