AI data centers are turning to jet engines and diesel because the grid can't keep up

AI data centers are increasingly using jet engines converted to turbines and diesel generators for power because electrical grid connections now take up to seven years, forcing companies to seek immediate energy solutions. GE Vernova and other suppliers report surging demand, with over one gigawatt of repurposed aircraft engines now powering facilities, though this on-site generation costs roughly twice as much as traditional grid electricity.
